ein Programm, das die Auswahl zwischen verschiedenen Betriebssystemen beim Booten des Rechners gestattet. Die meisten neueren Betriebssysteme haben einen eigenen Boot-Manager. Es gibt aber auch separat erhältliche Boot-Manager, die man zusätzlich installieren kann. Bei jedem Boot-Vorgang zeigt der Boot-Manager ein textorientiertes Menü, das die verschiedenen installierten Betriebssysteme zur Auswahl anbietet. Will man standardmäßig ein bestimmtes Betriebssystem laden, kann man gewöhnlich eine Präferenz darauf einstellen, wonach nach einer kurzen Zeitspanne dieses Betriebssystem geladen wird. Eine spezielle Einstellungsvariante ist die Dual-Boot-Option (Dual Boot). Im Boot-Manager von Windows 95 z. B. konnte mit dieser Option zwischen dem Start von DOS und Windows gewählt werden.
